August minutes and September meeting reminder

August Minutes

Senior Services is appreciative of the support we have been giving them this year.  We are on a roll, so let's keep it going!  Travel rolls, that is. We would like to donate 100 Travel Rolls
(https://www.maychappell.com/2019/07/22/travel-roll-tutorial/so they can be used as gifts by Senior Services this Christmas.  We are asking for completed rolls and / or donations of quality washcloths (at least 10.5 x 10.5 square), Pellon SF101 interfacing, pieces of fabric (at least 13 x 13),  and grosgrain ribbon (in yard lengths).   You may also make a cash donation.  Ann Monroe will be thrilled to go shopping for you! Turns out, our planned "Items of the Month" were wash cloths and hand towels anyway.

Quilt Raffle and Ticket Sales - The two throw-sized quilts are made and travelling around the local quilt shops.  (And we appreciate their support!)  The money we make offsets the costs of bringing in quality speakers from around the country.  Because of that, we are asking each member to do one of two things: 1) sell at least $40 worth of tickets or 2) volunteer and go to one of several locations to sell tickets to the public (even if you do not sell $40 worth of tickets.)  Lee Monroe has the ticket sales sign-up sheet.  The drawing will be at our November 26th meeting.

Club Swap - The reusable grocery bag swap was a great success.  There were many beautiful bags made and traded.

The next swap will be of handmade ornaments for our November holiday party.  This is totally optional.  Anyone who brings an ornament will go home with one from another member.

Program - Our speaker was Claudia Marteniz who runs the Snuggly Monkey on-line needlework store.  She talked about her journey from quilting to embroidery and sashiko work.  She brought along several of her quality fabrics, patterns, and threads for members to purchase.

Next Meeting -
Our September speaker will be Katherine from The Mountain Thread Company. On Tuesday, September 24th, 6:30 pm at the South Fork Community Center, Katherine will give a lecture about her journey starting up a fabric store and rope basket business in Blowing Rock, NC.

The following morning, Wednesday, September 25th, Katherine will be giving a workshop on the basics of rope basketry.  Cost is $50 for members.  You can review the supply list and sign up here:
