Our September speaker will be Katherine from The Mountain
Thread Company. On Tuesday, September 24th , Katherine will give a
lecture about her journey starting up a fabric store and rope basket business
in Blowing Rock, NC.
The following morning, Wednesday, September 25th,
Katherine will be giving a workshop on the basics of rope basketry. For a cost
of $50 for members, $60 for non-members, you’ll receive three (9:30 AM -12:30 PM) hours of hands-on instruction with Katherine,
supplies, and enough time to complete a set of coasters or a small basket. If
you’ve always admired Katherine’s work but haven’t gotten the opportunity to
take a class at her storefront, this is your chance! The workshop will take place in the ballroom at the South Fork Community Center.
The supply list:
Participants will need to bring the following items with
them:
sewing machine with zigzag stitch,
power cord,
foot pedal,
basic sewing kit (scissors, pins, etc),
1 spool of 50 weight thread (such as Aurifil - needs to be a
good quality thread)
fabric remnants cut down to 1/4" - 1/2" wide (does
not have to be exact).
Katherine will provide:
100% cotton rope
1 heavy duty jeans / denim needle per participant
instruction booklet
