Tuesday October 22, 2019 meeting and September recap

September minutes

Senior Services -
October suggested donation - paper products

We would like to donate 100 washcloth travel rolls filled with toothbrushes, toothpaste, unused (wrapped) combs, floss, etc.  Thanks to a few dentists we have more than enough toothpaste.  We still need individually wrapped toothbrushes, other toiletry items, and the washcloth rolls themselves.  The pattern can be found here:  https://www.maychappell.com/2019/07/22/travel-roll-tutorial/

Pam has offered Moore’s Springs Manor http://www.mooresspringsmanor.com/   for a sew-in on Sunday, November 10th, from 1 - ?.  Bring your machine, sewing supplies, and a surge protector, and be ready to make travel rolls!  If you wish to contribute to the project, please talk to Ann Monroe.
Address is 12289 Hall Rd, Westfield, NC

Guild Swap -
The next guild swap will be for the November holiday party.  If you wish to participate please bring an ornament that you have made.

Raffle Quilts -
This is our annual fundraiser so that we can invite educators to visit our guild.  We are asking everyone to sell at least $40 worth of tickets OR to sell tickets at local venues.  There still are opportunities to volunteer, so please talk to Lee Monroe to sign up.

Dues -
We are collecting dues ($40) for 2020 right now.  If you pay in Sept, Oct, or Nov, you will be entered into a drawing for fabric to add to your stash.

Notes from Board Meeting -

We have two questions for the guild -
1) Would you be willing to volunteer to be an officer on the board?
2) Can you recommend a quilter, sewist, or other fiber artisan for us to contact to be a speaker for next year?
Please pass your suggestions and offers to help to any officer. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Program Schedule -

Tuesday, October 22, 2019 meeting -
Be ready to enter the Quilt Olympics! We'll team up and compete in a series of FOUR quilty-themed challenges for a chance to win fabulous prizes.
The challenges will test a variety of your quilting skills, and as such, so please bring your seam ripper and a pair of snips.

November is our holiday party.  Please bring some food, the raffle tickets, money from sales, and your OPTIONAL handmade ornament.  We will be drawing for the quilts that night.

Anneliese also has surprises in the works for next year, so save the dates:
Monday, June 22 - evening workshop
Tuesday, June 23 - evening lecture
Wednesday, June 24 - daytime workshop
Tuesday, August 25 - evening lecture
Wednesday, August 26 - daytime workshop

These workshops are a great value when compared to what is paid for QuiltCon sessions.  Plus, they are here at home, so minimal travel is required!

At the September meeting we hosted Katherine from The Mountain Thread Company http://www.themountainthreadcompany.com/ .  She discussed her journey from sewing and quilts to sewing bowls, totes, and other containers from North Carolina manufactured rope.  This developed into her own store, with workshops and sales of finished products.  The Wednesday workshop was quite enjoyable and the attendees went home with at least 2 finished items each.  If you missed it, you still have a chance to see her work, learn her methods, and buy rope and finished products from her shop in Blowing Rock.

October Meeting--Quilt Olympics!

Join the Triad Modern Quilt Guild this month for Quilt Olympics!

Once at the meeting, we'll team up and compete in a series of 4 quilty games for the chance to win a set of fabulous prizes.

The challenges will test a variety of your quilting (and other) skills, and as such, we'll need you to help by bringing some supplies. So, bring your seam ripper and a pair of snips, and of course, your game face! We look forward to seeing you soon!
