Ready to Flaunt??

Just a reminder about the Flaunt event, coming up tomorrow at Karen Gray Designs in Reynolda Village.  It's going to be wonderful!!

You can find more info on Karen's Blog, including a list of vendors.  Karen has an entire selection of designer fabrics that will be on sale for $5/yard and specials in her store that include 1/2 price on selected quilt kits and fat quarter bundles.

Our very own Swap Mama, Colleen will be there with her goodies and our Treasurer, Tami, and I will be there helping Karen with fabric cutting, customer service, and miscellaneous errands.   I can't wait!

Hope to see you there!!

October meeting - Next week!

Hi Everyone.

Don't forget about our next meeting - Tuesday, October 11 at 6:00 pm at Sewingly Yours in Lewisville.

Directories are almost finished, and I hope to have them ready to give out that night.  If you weren't at the last meeting and would like to be in the directory, send your name, phone #, cell #, e-mail and any web info (twitter, flickr, blog) you may have to TriadMQG@gmail.com as soon as possible.

We'll also be discussing by-laws and finalizing our leadership roster - I'm very pleased to say that we have at least one volunteer for every spot...and more than one for some!  Thanks to all who have stepped up for our first year.

Did you finish our challenge???  The challenge was to make your own name tag for our next meeting.  I can't wait to see what everyone has come up with!  Don't forget to bring your show-and tell items, too!

As a reminder, we decided to forgo snacks, but feel free to bring your own food/drink if you'd like.

See you soon!!!

What a great meeting!!

Ok, I must admit, I'm still in shock at how many wonderful ladies showed up to our inaugural meeting - 26 in all.  As I was turning off the highway, I stated out loud, "I hope for 10...10 would be great."  Y'all really knocked my socks off!

I'm busy working on a directory and will have it out soon.  I'm also very happy to say that we have more than enough volunteers for the officer positions.  Of course, those at the meeting know that Paige has graciously stepped up to be a Co-President with me.   On top of that we have at three people interested in Secretary and two interested in Treasurer!  I'll get names out soon so we can vote at the next meeting.  Also, Colleen has agreed to be our first Swap Coordinator and I'm sure she's already brewing up some fabulous ideas for us.  :)

And speaking of Colleen... she has a fabulous write up about our meeting on her website, with pictures!

I'm already so inspired by this group that I can hardly stand it.  We have a great mix of newbies and veteran quilters (one who has only been quilting a couple of months!!), a great mix of ages, and people from coast-to-coast ... and even one from Poland!  I can't wait to see the wonderful things we will do together!

Go ahead and mark your calendar for our next meeting on October 11th at 6 pm and keep watching here for more announcements.

Have a great weekend!!!

Four days...

...well, if you don't count today.   I never quite know exactly how to count days.

Regardless... we meet on Tuesday!!!

I hope you are spreading the word and inviting all your quilty friends.  I would love to see us fill up the room at Sewingly Yours!

In the meantime, here are some things to think about that we will be discussing on Tuesday:
  • Officers - We need people to step up and help run the ship.  Preferably a President, Vice Pres, Secretary and Treasurer.  I'll have specific duties outlined at the meeting, which we can discuss and edit.  I'm thinking one-year terms for all positions (also open for discussion).
  • Snacks - Do we even want to bother?  If we do, should it come out of dues or do we rotate volunteers?
  • Swaps - To steal the title from Quilt Dad (a Triangle MQG member), we need a Swap Swami.  Someone to organize swaps on a regular basis.
  • Internet - We need an Internet Queen (or King) to manage things like this website, a flickr group, e-mail lists, and other miscellaneous things that may come up.
I'll have more at the meeting, but these are the big ones I know we need right away.  I hope you'll consider using your talents to make this a strong group.  Please don't assume someone else will do it.  This is your chance!

See you next week!

Two Weeks to Go!

I don't know about you, but I'm so excited that our first meeting is coming up.  Only two weeks to go!

I've had several people ask me questions about the meeting, so I decided to post the answers here in case more were wondering.

Is there anything I need to bring to the meeting?
As of right now, there is nothing you need to bring.  Of course, with that said, I'm hoping that everyone brings something for Show-and-Tell.  Show-and-Tell is not required, but I hope it will be a regular part of our meetings.

Will we always be meeting on the Second Tuesday of the month?
As of right now, yes.  If this is an ongoing conflict for our members we can certainly discuss optional days/times at the first meeting.  The first three meetings have already been published in the Sewingly Yours newsletter, so changes (if any) would not take effect until December.

What about food?  Will there be food at the meeting?
I plan to have a few light snacks (e.g., crackers, cookies), but not a meal.  You are welcome to bring your own food in if you cannot eat before the 6 o'clock meeting start time.  (And feel free to eat during the meeting as well.)  There are several options near Sewingly Yours including a Wendy's, Zaxby's and Chinese takeout.

As a reminder, the first meeting is on Tuesday, September 13th at 6:00 pm at Sewingly Yours in Lewisville.  They are at the intersection of Highway 421 and Lewisville-Clemmons Road (click here for a map).

For GPS users, the store address is:
1329 Lewisville-Clemmons Road
Lewisville, NC 27023

Can't wait to meet everyone!

Interview with Karen Gray

I don't know if you've visited Ellison Lane Quilts today or not, but she has a wonderful interview posted with Karen Gray, a local designer right here in Winston-Salem.

There are several events you will want to note - an event called "Flaunt" for local crafters, and an upcoming event at Graylyn.  Not to mention fabulous pictures of Karen's store.

Take a few minutes and check out the post today.  (Pssst - there's also a fabulous giveaway!)
