September meeting Recap

Announcements:
-- Upcoming sew in: Oct. 6 from 1-6pm at Sew Original. Teri will be teaching lessons on pillowcases and name tags.
-- Carolyn Friedlander (designer of Arcitecture fabric) will be speaking at Thimble Pleasures in Raleigh on Friday Nov. 15 at 6pm.
--Fall Bazaar: South Fork is holding a bazaar Friday Oct. 25th. They are looking for volunteers willing to volunteer for a couple of hours. They also would like guild members to make zipper pouches for the event. If you are interested in helping contact Katie.
-- Upcoming swaps: name tag swap, this is an open swap between you and your partner.
--Fall Sewing Retreat: Lee will be hosting a retreat at her family's mountain cabin on Oct. 25-27th. Contact Lee if you would like to attend.
--Contact Info: We will be putting a link to an excel spreadsheet on the blog where members can include their contact information. This will be a way for members to access contact info for other guild members. You only have to include information you wish to share with the guild. More info coming soon!
--Dec. meeting cancelled. Holiday party will be at the Nov. meeting.
--1 million pillowcase challenge: we will be accepting the finished pillowcases at the Oct. and Nov. meetings. If you are interesting in participating or have questions contact Teri.
--National Quilt Guild: This month we were given the highlights about joining the National Quilt Guild, and what it would mean for our guild. The members will vote in October about whether to join or not. Here are some highlights:
>receive 501 status ( non-profit tax exempt status)- bank account
>dues structured by number of members (additional $10-15 along with local dues)
>discounted entry fees for guild shows
>discounts/special offers
>participation in guild swaps/challenges
> provide a website
> organize members/dues 

The speaker was Martha Neeley from Knot One Smock Two. She spoke about hand embroidery.
