Charity Chat with Katie

Katie here, wanting to update everyone on the goings on in all things charity related for the guild.

American Patchwork & Quilting - 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge
We are linking up with the million pillowcase challenge and wanted to encourage everyone to make at least one pillowcase for donation. As a guild in total the goal is at least 50 but more would defiantly be better, which is actually about 2 per person. I know we can rock this because they only take about 10 minutes each to put together. A tutorial is hereWe have put together some kits from the guild stash fabrics meaning no measuring and very little cutting for you. If you want to get a kit (or kits) they will be available at the sew in on 10/6/2013 which will be at Sew Original starting at 1 pm. You can also contact me or Teri directly and arrange to pick some up from us or we will also have them available at the next meeting.

Secondly we as a group have been asked to make donations or volunteers for the upcoming Fall Carnival that the South Fork Recreation Center is having on 10/25. They have been a very welcoming location to have our meetings and this even is to help keep the costs of the center down so that they will be able to continue to provide for the community. If you would like to volunteer time for the event please contact Kim Young at 336-659-4305. We will be collecting donated items up until the next meeting on 10/22. They are looking for both door prizes and prizes for children participating in the various events so any donations will be greatly appreciated -- pouches, wall hangings, mug rugs, ect.

Senior Services of Winston Salem, NCUp next is the ongoing donations of lap quilts for Senior Services. I have shuffled the stash around into kits for easy projects and welcome anyone to complete a few blocks, an entire quilt top or a completed project. I know time is valuable to each of us but this is something that really makes a difference to the recipient to know that others care. Our last drop off was 13 quilts and the report back was nothing but praise for the wonderful work we are doing. Our yearly total at this time is about 40 and that's because we are awesome -- shall we strive for 50+ completed in 2013?
