Timna Tarr Class

We are so thrilled that Timna Tarr will be visiting the Triad for our July program! She will be giving a lecture and trunk show on Tuesday, July 25 at 6:30. There is a $5 fee at the door. On Wednesday, July 26, Timna will be teaching her map workshop from 10-4. The workshop is $75 for Triad MQG members and $85 for non-members. You can reserve your spot via the paypal button below or email Triadmqg at gmail dot com to pay via cash or check. About one-two weeks prior to the class, we will send out the supply lists and details about the day of class.

Timna Tarr comes from a long line of quilters but did not begin quilting until after studying art history in college. She bought her first longarm in 2001 and began quilting clients' quilts shortly thereafter. Since then she has custom designed and quilted thousands of quilts. Timna’s own nationally award-winning quilts are in private and corporate collections and have been seen in numerous exhibits, quilting magazines, and books. She is an in-demand speaker and teacher throughout the northeastern United States and is a member of her local guilds, Hands Across the Valley Quilters Guild and the Northampton Modern Quilt Guild.

Amanda and Lee will email the swap partners the beginning of June and you have until our September meeting to bring your completed mini quilt
o   Community
§  Sheri reminded everyone about Senior Services and making a quilt to donate. She and Ann discussed a new plan to “Adopt a Back” the guild has enough fabric for backing, if you adopt one you can use your own stash to coordinate fabrics for a top. Please keep quilts to sizes 40X50 to 55X65 and 100% cotton fabric and batting. Ask fellow guild members for fabric from their stash and partner with them to help completing the tasks you are not so fond of – like binding. The goal is to donate as many quilts this year as we have members, around 40.
§  The community basket is at the table when you sign in, don’t forget to bring in items from toiletries to cash and they will buy Target gift cards
§  Amber said we could use the long arm at Sewingly Yours free of charge to make a Senior Services quilt, you still need to reserve a spot and be sure to tell whoever is working you are making the quilt for that reason.

Amber asked if anyone had any ideas for speakers or demonstrations for next year to please let her know, she then introduced the speaker for our meeting – Ania Reich

Ania creates art quilts and her website is aniareich-quilts.com. She has been seeing a trend in walking foot quilting especially in modern quilts. She urged us to express our free spirit and quilt for ourselves no matter where that quilt will end up – a gift or in a show. You do not have to be an artist to create an art quilt. Her first quilt was for her young daughter and she didn’t even know what the word quilt meant! She layers fabrics, even little tiny pieces, using wonder under and her iron. She is inspired by photos, nature and Pinterest, she then sketches, outlines and finally cuts out and pieces together her beautiful quilts.
