November Holiday Meeting Recap
To get in the holiday spirit here is a fun and yummy recipe to enjoy:
- Payday Bars
2-16 oz jars salted, dry roasted peanuts (I used Planters)PAM, cooking sprayaluminum foil4 Tablespoons butter2 cups Reese's Peanut Butter chips1 can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk1 bag miniature marshmallows (I use Campfire)Line a 9 x 13 pan with aluminum foil; spray foil with PAM cooking spray; spread 1 16 oz jar of peanuts in thebottom of the pan; set aside the other jar of peanuts, but have them open for use.In the top of a double boiler, or in a heavy pan slowly melt butter & peanut butter chips; add condensed milk toheat; stir in marshmallows....stirring until just about melted.Pour over peanuts and immediately pour 2nd jar of peanuts over melted mixture; press down peanuts with yourhands, pushing peanuts into all the gooey places that don't have any nuts;Store in the refrigerator. Cut into pieces to serve, after they have cooled (I like 2" x 2" when I am eating themor .5 x .5 if you are taking them to a guild meeting).Compliments of Sue James

"TRICK OR TRUNK!"
Guild meeting is this Tuesday night so here are quick reminders on the Nametag Swap and Million Pillowcase sewing.
NAMETAGS: If you and your swap partner have decided to swap nametags at this meeting, please bring them—wrapped or unwrapped, however you would like to present it to your partner. There will be no formal Show ‘n Swap, but be sure to look around and see what all of you creative chicas have made. If you did not get nametags done, hopefully you will have yours next month at the TMQG Holiday Party.
If you did not sign up to make a nametag but wish you had, it’ll never be too late. Hopefully, we can keep this up until everyone has a nametag. Just let me know if you want a swap partner—I am not opposed to folks swapping more than once—nametags are great quilting skills practice! It would be GREAT if we had some angels to make up some extra nametags for visitors and even new members! FYI, I have plastic for windows and Peltex to share!
PILLOWCASES: Please bring your finished pillowcases to the meeting Tuesday! We will continue to make them and bring them to the November meeting, as well.
I have NEW KITS for $5 each. I bought fabric on clearance at Ben Franklin, added some solids and put together 23 cute kits. I am just hoping to recoup a portion of my cost so your cost is simply what I have in them. (I also have a few old ones from the guild stash that are still free.)
Think we could make 75 pillowcases? Maybe even 100?
See you at South Fork Community Center on THIS Tuesday at 6:30p! FYI, our program is a trunk show by a few guild members. I call it “Trick or Trunk” because I am part of the show--I have a treat or two, but some tricks also. You won’t believe some of the things people have sewn together. It should make you feel pretty good about your own work!

Charity Chat with Katie
Katie here, wanting to update everyone on the goings on in all things charity related for the guild.
We are linking up with the million pillowcase challenge and wanted to encourage everyone to make at least one pillowcase for donation. As a guild in total the goal is at least 50 but more would defiantly be better, which is actually about 2 per person. I know we can rock this because they only take about 10 minutes each to put together. A tutorial is here. We have put together some kits from the guild stash fabrics meaning no measuring and very little cutting for you. If you want to get a kit (or kits) they will be available at the sew in on 10/6/2013 which will be at Sew Original starting at 1 pm. You can also contact me or Teri directly and arrange to pick some up from us or we will also have them available at the next meeting.
Secondly we as a group have been asked to make donations or volunteers for the upcoming Fall Carnival that the South Fork Recreation Center is having on 10/25. They have been a very welcoming location to have our meetings and this even is to help keep the costs of the center down so that they will be able to continue to provide for the community. If you would like to volunteer time for the event please contact Kim Young at 336-659-4305. We will be collecting donated items up until the next meeting on 10/22. They are looking for both door prizes and prizes for children participating in the various events so any donations will be greatly appreciated -- pouches, wall hangings, mug rugs, ect.
Up next is the ongoing donations of lap quilts for Senior Services. I have shuffled the stash around into kits for easy projects and welcome anyone to complete a few blocks, an entire quilt top or a completed project. I know time is valuable to each of us but this is something that really makes a difference to the recipient to know that others care. Our last drop off was 13 quilts and the report back was nothing but praise for the wonderful work we are doing. Our yearly total at this time is about 40 and that's because we are awesome -- shall we strive for 50+ completed in 2013?

Hello Fellow Swappers!
Hello quiltie friends! I hope many of you were able to participate in the recent Quilt Carolina Shop Hop. If you are on Instagram, you may have seen part of the adventures that some of us had. We are blessed with lots of LQS’s!
As you may know, I (Teri Emerson) am taking Colleen’s role as the TMQG Swap Organizer (aka Swap Mama.) Thank you, Colleen for serving the group for not one year, but two! We appreciate the efforts you took to put together the various swaps many of us have enjoyed!
Due to the growth of our guild, we will be changing things a bit. There will be fewer swaps, but I am certain that does not mean less fun! The first swap I am organizing this year is a Nametag Swap. I am hoping for close to 100% participation, so we can get to know each other even better! A nametag is a simple thing to make and won’t be time consuming.
NAMETAG SWAP SIGN-UPS will be at tomorrow’s meeting!! If you cannot be there, it’s not a problem, just email me so we can arrange for a partner for you.
This is NOT A SECRET swap but an OPEN swap, so you will be working with your partner on each other’s nametag.
I hope you are putting the final touches in your partner’s travel pillow or have it ready to go! I can’t wait to see the nice things you all have stitched up and I look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow at 6:30p at the South Fork Community Center!
FYI, there are CUTE nametags on this Pinterest board. And here are a few tutorials:

Link to Travel Pillow Swap
Hey ya"ll! I'm talking to you live from a McDonalds in Duluth, MN! We are waiting on our new tires for our trailer after having a blowout Saturday. Dad realized the other tires we have were also failing.
I bound the three quilts I brought along. Gave one to my great-aunt Fay who cried and the other to my parents. They loved it and keep it on their bed in the camper, it matches perfectly. I would put pictures but am limited with my wifi.
Anyway we have four people signed up so far so jump in . Here's the link
I will assign partners Friday or Saturday depending on Internet service.
Happy summer!

Fabric Sales!
Need some retail therapy with a short road trip? Here are 2 great quilt fabric opportunities happening nearby:
1. The Carolina Quilt Market is
hosting a huge sale to liquidate a deceased quilter's stash for her
family. This sale is being combined with the inventory of Sew Together,
which closed last year.
Here are the details about the fabulous fabric sale at
Carolina Quilt Market.

frustrated quilters, want-to-bes, greatgrandmas, grandmas, moms,
daughters, aunts, homemakers, career ladies, Prayer and Square’ers, men,… in
short, everyone.
WHAT: Additional
products now on sale at the store -
Over 500 yards of fabric in various cut lengths, and
fabric on the bolt from Jennifer’s. A
lot of Moda and comparable quality. Some
batiks. Fabulous fat quarters. Huge
variety of quilt kits. Dozens and dozens
of patterns. Books to interest
everyone. Special notions table..
WHEN: Starting 10am. Tuesday, June 4, until it’s all sold.
Just call if you can’t get there by 6pm and I’ll stay
open for you to shop. If you wait until Saturday .the best selection will
be gone!

near Haj Paj and The Feedbag.

a UFO, or even start a new quilt.

Patti and Cindy (The Quilt Gallery) are having their sale
on Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8.
We’re at exit 174 of I-40.
They’re close by at exit 168.
Make it a shop hop day.
From their release:
From Cindy and Patti at Quilter's Gallery
WE ARE GOING TO REOPEN! Now, before you get too excited,
let me say this is a limited re-opening. Two days only. Friday June 7 and
Saturday, June 8, 2013. 9 am to 4 pm on Friday and 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
Many of you ask – “How can we shop with you?” We can’t
post all the fabrics and nothing compares to looking and feeling fabrics in
person. The problem with a retail location had been time and cost. We think we
have come up with a compromise. Our cousin has a Carpet Store with a warehouse
in the back. She needs foot traffic and we need display space. We are going to
try an experiment. As you know, sometimes you need to think outside the box to
be successful. We are going to set up in her warehouse for the weekend. We are
going to bring all our fabrics, just like at quilt show. We will bring batiks
and prints, cut in 3 yard pieces, 1 yard pieces and 1/2 yd. pieces. We have
just received 3 new orders of batiks. $10.95 a yard or $5.50 for a 1/2 yd.
We’ll have prints there too – $9.95 a yd. or $5.50 for a 1/2 yd.
We will bring our specially priced fat quarter tubs for
bargain hunters.
We are also going to bring some one-of-a kind items. It
is time to clean out some quilt tops. These quilt tops are samples from kits.
We just can’t keep everything (what?). So they will be reasonably priced for
the fabric and the labor. If this event is successful, we’ll pack everything up
and do it more often.
So, call your quilting friends and plan a road trip to
our “One Shop -Shop Hop Stop”.
Location: Carpet Distributors. 115 Carpet Rd.,
Statesville, NC 28625.
Map: http://carpet-distributors.com/contact-us/Carpet
Distributors is located off of I-40 at Exit 162 between Statesville and
Mocksville. You can’t miss it. Carpet Distributors is on the hill right off of
the exit. One of our other cousins owns Furniture Distributors right beside it.

(from Teri)
"Up until about a year ago, I had no idea that I
would ever be able to piece detailed quilt blocks like the New York
Beauty. I have sewn most of my life, but
the complexity seemed impossible. Using
paper-piecing techniques has made creating this block a reality for me. I think you can do it too!
I will demonstrate the freezer paper-piecing method I
use. The pattern I will demonstrate is a
large block that will make sewing the convex and concave curves together even
easier. I will also talk about the bias
grain of the fabric and how to use it to your advantage and not let the bias
take advantage of you. I hope to see you
there!"
